Recipe and origin URLs that food desks keep, not coupon spikes

A cashback popup is not a food neighbourhood. The campaign followed methods, apricot harvest notes, and desks that still cook on the page.

The starting problem

Apricot products, mountain honey, jarred vegetables from the Valais into Swiss grocery. Organic was branded and coupon-shaped. Recipe URLs existed because a content agency had filled a calendar; they ranked for almost nothing because citations were deal sites, browser extensions, and a couple of French wellness blogs.

Swiss recipe search belongs to large publishers on head dishes. A small brand site will not unseat them with a directory link. It can become a cited method source, and it can rank on longer recipe-plus-origin queries.

Brand wanted “food influencers.” Influencers are a different channel. This engagement was indexed editorial. Scopes stayed separate.

How the campaign ran

Six recipe URLs and one origin story. Publishers: Swiss food writing in French and German, Valais and Vaud regional magazines that still do produce pieces, two national desks with named recipe authors. We checked whether outbound links went to producers and books — or to whoever bought a package.

Pitches offered a keepable method: how a Valais apricot behaves in a tart, how the jarred vegetable is made, an honest substitution. No “meilleure confiture suisse” crowns with a year attached.

Anchors were recipe and origin language. Product SKUs were not the default destination; stew searchers are not shopping a PDP. Product URLs only when the sentence was about buying the jar.

Coupon networks were not contacted. Existing deal links were left for a later cleanup conversation. Adding more would have repeated the prior vendor’s reflex.

Traffic through the engagement

What changed

Recipe organic rose 56 percent across six URLs. The origin story nearly doubled from a small base. Long recipe queries improved; head dishes stayed with large publishers, as expected.

Thirty-one food-desk placements. Zero new coupon links. Referral paths often landed on a method and sometimes continued to a product URL — visible without pretending perfect attribution.

The content calendar now starts from queries a food desk in Lausanne or Zurich would recognise, not from SKU lists. Next recipes are easier to pitch because of that order.

Prospects we turned down

  • Coupon and deal networks.
  • French wellness blogs used as a Switzerland stand-in.
  • Influencer round-ups that never index.

Autumn recipes are live before outreach resumes. Page-first is now house style.

Deal-site spikes photograph well and teach the wrong neighbours. Valais Grove’s chart is recipes and origin. Smaller and defensible beats a spike you cannot show a food editor.
