In-body fashion writing, not lookbook tags pretending to be citations

A tag on a photo is not a source. The campaign insisted on bylines, archives, and a sentence that needed the brand.

Stopped feeding the old graph

The starting problem

The studio sits near the Limmat. The link profile looked like a tagging machine: image hosts, lookbook platforms, English street-style blogs. Almost none of it was a Swiss sentence about clothes a buyer in Zurich or Lausanne would read. Coat and knitwear categories sat behind marketplaces and behind the brand’s own lookbook subdomain, which leaked equity into a gallery.

The founder loved the photographs. Photographs are not a citation strategy. We separated vanity from rankable URLs: materials story, coat guide, knitwear category.

Seasonality is sharp. Six months covered late winter into early summer. Pitches followed Zurich and Geneva feature calendars, not invoice months.

How the campaign ran

On-site, the lookbook subdomain stopped being the default destination. Mentions pointed at Swiss story and category URLs. That one change made outreach coherent.

Publishers: Swiss fashion writing with actual editors, culture titles in Zurich and Lausanne that treat clothes as clothes, one retail trade piece. Instagram-shaped “magazines” full of tags were declined even when they offered same-week slots.

Pitches offered a materials note, an atelier visit, a care guide a desk could keep. Anchors used garment language. Repeated exact-match “mantel kaufen online schweiz” was refused.

Metrics were logged for the founder. The real filter: byline, archive, sentence.

What changed

Organic on story and category URLs rose 53 percent. Lookbook sessions were excluded so gallery traffic could not pad the chart. Coat and knitwear phrases improved against marketplaces on several mid-tail terms.

Twenty-six in-body editorial placements. No new tag links. Historical tag cleanup stayed a separate conversation; a disavow file is not a strategy.

Photographs still matter. They now live on indexable pages with captions that can be cited — a different object from tag soup.

Prospects we turned down

  • Lookbook and tagging platforms.
  • English street-style blogs.
  • Same-week paid “features” with no archive.

Autumn editorial is being built as a Swiss article with images, not as a subdomain dump. Outreach waits until it is a page.

Vanity and rankings can coexist on different URLs. Beautiful photographs still need a sentence and a neighbourhood that looks like fashion writing.
